KARACHI: Around 11,000 schools are still closed and 900 hospitals are in a poor state after last year’s rains and floods caused havoc in the province, said Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Relief Haleem Adil Sheikh on Saturday. He was speaking at a seminar organised by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (Unicef) on the problems caused by natural disasters to children. “When I joined the department, I tried to interact with the international community to restore their confidence,” Sheikh said. Millions of children were forced into labour after the flood and the government would help the poor families to solve their monetary problems,” he added. The adviser appreciated the services of Unicef and urged humanitarian organisations to come forward for relief work in the flood-hit areas.
