A press released issued by NAB on Thursday said that the accused had allegedly cleared most of the containers. NAB also arrested another accused in connection to the case, Wasif Shah (Clearing Agent Eastern Agency).
On the directions of the Honorable Supreme Court of Pakistan, FBR referred various complaints on the misuse of Afghan Transit Facility by unscrupulous Clearing Agents and others whereby goods imported under the garb of Afghan Transit Trade did not cross the border but were disposed off in Pakistan.
NAB had initiated inquiries against these complaints and arrested six Clearing Agents on May 24, 2012, responsible for clearing 200 containers that never reached their destinations.
Among those arrested included Abdul Manaf, Mehmood Alam, Muhammad Rafiq, Irfan Haider Rizvi, Muhammad Irfan and Malik Ishtiaq Ahmed. The failure of ISAF containers to reach their destination last year cost the administration billions of rupees.
