Mubashir Lucman suspended for 'off-air' comments: Report
Behind the scenes footage showing Lucman and his co-anchor Meher Bokhari talking to Riaz during their show surfaced on YouTube under the title "Malik Riaz Planted Interview with Mehar Bokhari and Mubashir Lukman on dunya tv" on Thursday. The show aired on the TV channel on Wednesday.
Sources told Pakistan Today that an inquiry has been ordered against those who leaked the video.
Bokhari is heard saying a question is planted towards the end of the video.
“Say what you want… what question should we ask. It will appear as though it is planted… it is, but it shouldn’t appear it is.”
The footage shows conversations between Lucman, Bokhari and Riaz focused on the kind of questions they will be asking. Both anchors are also instructed against interrupting Riaz during the interview.
The video begins with general conversation and is followed by Riaz questioning the anchors on why they are not asking why he is part of “deals”.
In between Lucman’s smoke break, Bokhari turns to Riaz to discuss what they will ask next. A brief discussion and a “khul kay poochain”, Meher says that they will discuss journalists at the end of the show, so as to “clear her name” at least.
Lucman tells Riaz, “Today I will ask you to give me in front of everyone. Give me a villa like you gave Hamid”. “No, no,” is Riaz’s response once again, followed by a “why not” from Lucman.
Riaz is seen occasionally choosing topics of his choice, focusing on the chief justice as well. He is also visibly upset during one part of the video, where he says that most of his questions are left and the work isn’t done.
The second part also sees both anchors getting into a little tiff over camera time. Bokhari calls Lucman childish, who takes his mic off and leaves.
Riaz appears desperate when Lucman walks off, asking him to come back, saying it will be unfair for him.
An angry Lucman returns and tells Riaz that he will say live on air that he was pressurised into doing the show by him and Mian Amir.

Both anchors are hard working folks trying to put halal food on their table.
This shows that all these people in talk shows are doing Noora Kushti to fool common people. In reality all of them are one and united.
Why isn't Meher suspended too? Both are partners in crime...
I thought he was a good guy talking lofty on every topic. Man what a double face he turned out to be. I have stopped listening to such guys. Better to watch Masala TV.
We should be ashamed of ourselves as these people are direct reflection of our society, no need to blame them as any one of us would have done the same. Its high time we mend our ways and realize the graveness of the situation in our country. We need to sort out our own act, so honest and good people play an important role in our society rather than we produce the zardari's, sharifs, imrans and TV anchors like these.
Mr. Lucman & Ms. Bokhary have been very rightly EXPOSED. Now whatever amount of lame excuses they give, the people have seen what exactly 'makes the mare go'. This not only exposes these two but the journalist community as whole, may they beTV channel owners(Dunya news), Newspaper owners,anchors,newspaper columnists etc. Mr. Lucman gave numerous lectures on being upright, corruption, lawlessness/rule of the jungle etc. Whereas he has been seen by people to flout rules & regulations himself especially on PIA aircrafts(no smoking regulations & proudly announcing to his fellow passengers of how he can get away with it). It is just a case of 'pot calling the kettle black'. Apne girrayibaan mein tu jhaank ke dekhein Lucman sahib.

I only hope that other talk shows are any different, but I dont think so , they are either very pretictable,or Biased, or seen towing a certain part line.

I am not suprised by this news. In Pakistan money is God and can buy you a seat in Pakistan National Assembly, You bribe and grt billions of rupees contract. Examples are long but see how Aitejaz Hassan bought a seat from Zardari or I can say that Nr Aitejaz was bribed by Zardari. And The Big Show Of Mr Malik Riyaz will see his fate. All the corrupt persons are supporting Malik Riraz. It was very clear from day one that a conspiracy is being made against CJ by corrupt politicians and other corrupt elements of our society. We must pray for CJ to stay strong as he has done and we must support CJ.

I think Mubashir Luccman had little to do with what ever happened. Though he was part of it but how much boss's pressure can one take. After all he is an employee of Dunya News. The boss (Mian Amir) kept calling him constantly and kept pressurizing him not to cross question or interrupt. Sometimes one is forced to follow the corporate policy and that is where the ethical dilemma comes. Most people give into the senior personnel's pressure and some don't. Being agitated by the number of calls he was receiving, he even left the show at once point and threatened to tell the truth on air. People should think rationally.
@Super:if privately owned channels, have the right to make money,and duniya shouldnt be banned. then why judge doctors who steal kidneys of the innocent for the rich? let dowry system be the legitimate business. if this nation is headed this way then why target gillani for saying "if you want to leave, please do so" however we will judge sharmeen obaid for her documentary, who bagged an oscar. remarkable!

Mubasher Lucman is one honest journalist! I had the pleasure of knowing him professionally & can vouch for his honesty. He will come out from this mess, no question about it.
If the two anchors have taken bribe, then they would have prepared for the show and set up the things before hand, rather then discussing the question and answers in front of rest of the crew. I am not saying that they both are clean, obviously they are not, from what the video suggests, but this is a case of involvement of whole TV channel. The ease on their faces while setting up the show speaks it all. Now Duniya tv has made Mubashir Luqman an escape goat to get away from this.
I am glad to see their corruption being shown, and some other tv channels should now wait for their turn. Our media is definitely corrupt and its an open secret.
Th court should make exemplary punihsment to all those who have been involved in this corruption. Particulary the court should take proper notice of the list that has been published yesterday shwoing the details of the plots that have been granted to differnet anchor persons by Bahira Town. Resposibility may be fixed at DunyaNews Channels rather than at MB & ML. Channel administration should have maintained the transparency and professional honesty. Who own the channel, i think Mr. Mian Amir who is Pro Muslim League (N) ? Wonderfull job for one who leaked and uploaded the off air. I would request all the staff of diffrent channels working behind the camera must keep such great job for the betterment of the country :).

It was interesting on one side and desperating on other.Today it has bluntly appeared that anchors who always tried to pretend themselves a very brave and loyal to the country are no more sincere either to their profession or to their country.They just fool the nation. It was clearly evident from back of the camera discussions that the interview of Malik Riaz was planted.Both anchors Meher and Mubashir must be shameful and must apologize from the nation and they must quit this profession without any further justifications as well as delay.

Infotainment! Nobody should be ashamed or prosecuted. We're talking about a privately owned channel (who's sole purpose is to make money) and an entertainer. Why are people being so serious? There's no law in Pakistan that applies to 'speak truth while you're on air' and content on the media is not "regulated". If it doesn't infotain you, switch the channel.

I don't understand how we can make such brash comments on something we cannot even begin to comprehend the workings of. I have extreme respect for Mr.Mubashar Lucman. His work speaks for itself. Ofcourse every anchor works for the channel he is being employed by. And every anchor can be asked to do a certain programme. How does it spell dishonesty, cheating, and planting?? He did a job...maybe he wasn't very happy with...and so even got into a tiff because of his irritation . So how does that prove he is a black sheep? Just take a look at all the programs certain BIG names on Geo and other channels are constantly doing. I wonder we have never pointed fingers at them? I don't think we should pass judgements on ML or MB or Dunya TV at all. This is just one news out of the crore we face everyday in this country.

I am ashamed that media has lost its credibility and unfortunately the heights that media traveled after policy adopted by Musharraf and later by PPP, the nose dive today is extremely painful for those who had extremely high expectation with our news channels.
Paint pulling has reached its limit and now some code of conduct and some guidelines must be set to run this matter in ethical manner. The time for immediate action now. I urge media people and journalist community to clear up this mess as soon as possible.

few months back , this lucman blamed Najam Sethi for being an American agent in Pakistan, however najam sethi is one of the most respected journalist, his journalism is not based on emotions but on logics. welldone lucman you have exposed yourself.

Every day from 8pm 12 midnight the anchors set up a circus to fool the public with their tricks. They blame every one and sound as they are the panacea of our all problems. The news as well as news programmes are presented in low taste supported with cheap film music and below the belt sarcasm. They hurl insults to every one. All the praise is reserved for their own self.
These programmes are loud and noisy and spreading stress , anxiety and disappointment amongst general public
Look now how the true faces and characters of these anchors are being revealed. We the awam do not trust them any more. They have fooled us enough and amassed riches from corruption for which they blame every one else.

The question is whether you believe whatthese journalists say or whether you believe the people who published the list of 19 journalists which has some of the creme-de-la-creme journalists. It is possible some people on the 19 are innocent and some are guilty and the list publisher just took revenge on people he does not like by including their name also.
At this point how will you know who to believe? The list publisher or the journalist on the list?
Tribune is correct to not publish names unless it can confirm that there is a basis for those names to be on that list.

This program was staged as DunyaTv logo was not displayed and if the program has been leaked to youtube why the DunyaTv hasn't gone for privacy right and remove the video. This is totally a conspiracy against Luqman. He was doing very nice shows and people started to watch his program and I was also a very fan of him.
The program was called crossfire but bullet never leaves while keeping the address of the target.The other was called point blank and it was really point blank shoot. So the target was caught in both casses. The whole episode ends into "shoot to kill".
PTI should immediately disown Luqman ! He was very proactive in recent speeches of IK.
IK needs to keep his eyes and ears open.

Please hold on guys before passing any judgement. It is clear the Mubashar Luqman said that he was pressurized by the owner of Dunya TV to do this program And I am quite sure Mubashar Luqman did not demand a Villa, he was just trying to be sarcastic.
I think anchors are biased for sure, but the media house owners also pressurize them to present stuff of their own interest

Agree with HS, @ Alicia Meher was desperate reason at least in this show not a once she showed her displeasure about the whole Idea while she pegged luqman to come back on the other hand Luqman pointed out that from the start he was against the show then said he is being pressurized, any both are culprits where the management is the biggest one see the video again.
