The woman, a resident of Kokianwala, told the Razzaqabad police that her husband was an addict and often beat her demanding that she bring him money from her parents. She said she had done so several times, but had later refused him due to which, she said, he had then tried to force her into prostitution.
She said he also beat her more frequently so that she would agree.
Two days ago, she said, he brought home two strangers with him and told her to sleep with them.
She said when she raised an alarm and started shouting for help, he cut her hair. She said his mother and sister and one of his friends helped him on this.
She said they also kicked and slapped her.
“I was close to fainting, they left me. Some neighbours came and rescued me and also informed my parents,” she said.
She was taken to Allied Hospital, where doctors treating her said she was now out of danger.
She said after she was discharged from the hospital, she and her parents registered a case against her husband and the rest with the Razzaqabad police under Sections 148, 149 (beating) and 337 (cutting hair).
She also named her mother-in-law, her sister-in-law and her husband’s friend in the case.
She said her husband had power and influence in the area and feared he might try to bribe the police.
Soon after the registration of the case, City Police Officer (CPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana took notice of the incident and directed the police concerned to get her medical examination.
Four of the nominated suspects were arrested a few hours later from their home and presented before the area magistrate who granted a three-day physical remand of the four.
Further investigation has been initiated, the police said.
