Making inroads: ‘If elected, PTI will make tribal areas a province’
“People from the tribal areas have been treated as second class citizens and black laws have been imposed on them,” Dr Bashir, PTI’s chief organiser in Fata, said at a press conference on Friday, where he also announced that party chief Imran Khan is expected to visit the volatile tribal belt in September.
“The residents of tribal areas are innocent and patriotic people. But, on the one hand they are being killed by American drones and on the other they are being targeted by aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force,” Bashir said, referring to the killing of civilians on May 31, 2012 in PAF bombardment in Tirah Valley, Khyber Agency.
Criticising the government for its handling of the ongoing unrest in the tribal areas, he demanded an immediate end to military operations in tribal areas which he said have paralysed routine life and business activities in the area. “To grab more donations, the incompetent rulers of Pakistan are towing the line of the United States blindly.”
Responding to a question, he said that the number of civilians that have died in drone attacks has acceded that of high-profile al Qaeda militants who are the supposed target of the campaign. “Drone attacks are against international humanitarian laws and continue to violate Pakistan’s sovereignty.” The government, he said, must resolve conflict in tribal areas through negotiation as war is not a solution to the problem.
Dissatisfied over the living conditions of the Internally Displaced Persons, Dr Bashir said that the government has failed to provide tangible incentives to the affected people. According to the latest statistics of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, 11,000 families are living in the Jalozai Camp while 55,000 of these families are living off the camps.

Waqar habib, the first part of your comment proves that geographically and hence administratively it is illogical to make FATA separate province. I fail to understand, how come this new revelation (divide kp into 2) dawned upon u. 'People of fata dont want to be part of kp'' is utterly false. A majority of them want to be part of kp. In fact for many practical, social, economic, cultural and geographical reasons they are already part of kp.
PTI policies are anti-Pushtoons ,they are supporting Hazara and FATA as seperate provinces but against the division of Sindh.PTI is totally blind towards Pashtoon of Balochistan,PTI never asked for seperate province for them.

Instead of making it separate province it would be better to make it part of KPK and divide kpk in 2 parts.. Other wise it would be difficult to decide for provincial head of the Tribal province, a person from bajjur can visit peshwar but visiting waziristan is too difficult for him and same for a person from parachinar and waziristan to visit Mohmmand agency, for mohmmand its easy to visit peshawar rather than other area, its require debate and approval of the tribal people how they decide it

I am for it. Being Pashtun, I will support provincial status of tribal belt either part of KP or a separate entity. But it is more important to bring it out of FCR and archaic rule. It is long overdue.
Well on what basis will Imran make FATA another province? Linguistic or administrative, or some new logic? If he wants fata as a settled area for bringing it at par with the rest of the country, then why not as part of KP? Why is he obsessed with dividing the Pakhtuns only, by carving out FATA and Hazara. I know many PTI supporters will soon reply to this post, arguing that Imran is in favour making small provincial units in the whole country, not just kp. But the fact is that he never talks about making provinces in Sind and Baluchistan. His logic and standards vary from region to region, from people to people.
