Records gutted: Three MEPCO offices burnt in protest

The records at three MEPCO offices in Hasilpur were burnt on Tuesday during a protest against outages.


This is the 12th incident in two months in which MEPCO offices have been burned during protests against excessive loadshedding. Over 4,000 protestors took out a rally after over 20 hours of outages in a day. With only 8 policemen guarding the offices, protestors ransacked three MEPCO offices, including the executive engineer’s office on Hasilpur Road and two office on Chunawala Road and a grid station. The records at XEN Iqbal Joya and SDO Aftab Ahmed Joya’s offices were burnt. Police baton charged and teargassed protestors but fled from the scene after the protest became violent. DSP Sadiq Chandio told The Express Tribune that investigations will start after MEPCO officials submit a report on losses and identify suspects today (Wednesday). SDO Aftab Ahmed Joya said that the losses exceeded Rs3 million.
