SWAT: Scores of players from across the district displayed prowess in a five-day sports festival that concluded in Mingora on Sunday.

A total of 19 events from football through karate were held amid high spirits.

Visibly elated after bagging a trophy, Shah Hussain, captain of the winning football team, said he had a thrilling time at the festival.

“Apart from the major event, I won the 100-metre, 200-metre and 100x4 metre-races. This is very encouraging and I hope such activities continue,” he told The Express Tribune.

Abdalee, who won the table tennis tournament, seemed glad that sports were being given due recognition. “This tournament proved to be a real gift for us,” he said. He was also a part of a team which won the tug-of-war tournament.

To keep the little ones engaged, a number of playful activities were also lined up. Orphan children of the Khpal Kor Foundation stole the show with their colourful performances.

Addressing the prize distribution ceremony, Member Provincial Assembly Sher Shah Khan appreciated the endeavour. “With such healthy activities, we will be able to tackle the present-day challenges,” he said, adding that the government supports every sport and cultural activity.

The sports festival was organised by the Express Media Group and people from all walks of life participated with zeal.
