Undecided: No consensus on CEC’s appointment

The committee unanimously calls upon the media not to make any comments on the nominees.

A parliamentary committee which met here at the Parliament House on Friday failed to reach a consensus on the appointment of a chief election commissioner (CEC).


Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah presided over the meeting where lawmakers decided to continue their deliberations on nominations proposed by the prime minister at its next meeting, which will be held on June 5.

The committee unanimously called upon the media not to make any comments on the nominees under consideration before a decision was taken. At the meeting, the committee considered nominations forwarded by both the prime minister and Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

Senators Islamuddin Sheikh, Raja Muhammad Zafarul Haq, Haji Muhammad Adeel, Arif Aziz Sheikh, MNAs Zahid Hamid, Khwaja Muhammad Asif and Tehmina Daultana attended the meeting.
