RAWALPINDI:

Police on Tuesday arrested two men who are suspected to have shot down a cop in Sadiqabad two days ago.

The suspects who were identified as Kamran alias Kali and Umair Ali alias Ali have been sent to Adiala Jail for 14 days after the police obtained orders from anti-terrorism court for their identification parade. This was stated by Superintendent of Police (SP) Rawal Division Chaudhry Muhammad Hanif in a press conference.

Earlier, on May 27 a police constable was shot dead in A-Block Sadiqabad when he tried to stop the men upon suspicion.

Giving the details of the case, the SP said that Constable Shahid Zameer Kazmi along with another constable Atif Kiani were on routine patrolling last Sunday when they tried to intercept two persons. “Kazmi was shot in his head and chest and he died on spot while the other constable managed to duck in time,” Hanif said.

In a bid to arrest the killers, the SP said, area police gathered the data of some of the criminals involved in street crimes and robberies.

The sketch of the killers was drawn with the help of the surviving constable. Further investigation established that the two arrested men were seen in the area on eve of May 27.

Hanif added, “Police first arrested Kamran who confessed to have killed the constable and recovered the 30 bore pistol used in the crime.”

The arrested man further revealed the whereabouts of Umair who was taken into custody on Monday night.

Responding to a question about killing of five employees of a hotel in Pirwadhai area on Monday morning, SP Hanif said police was getting nearer to the killer.

The dispute arose over the refund of Rs200 that were paid as rent for one of the rooms, he said. The assailant did not like the room and had demanded his money back, added Hanif.

The SP said the details of the killer had been obtained from the daily register of the hotel and now the police was in a better position to arrest him.
