KARACHI:

As various political parties scramble to form alliances before the election, former Punjab governor Ghulam Mustafa Khar, in a surprising move, has decided to join Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) along with his family while the National Peoples Party (NPP) announced a political alliance with the Pir Pagara-led party.

Talking to media after a three-hour meeting with Pir Pagara on Thursday, Khar said he made the decision after much thought and consultation with his family and friends.  He said that he would formally announce his affiliation with PML-F in a couple of days.

On the other hand, Ghulam Murtaza Khan Jatoi-led NPP also called on Pagara and announced an electoral alliance with PML-F. Murtaza Jatoi said the two parties will jointly contest the elections in Sindh and Punjab.

Talking to The Express Tribune, PML-F Sindh General Secretary Imtiaz Shaikh said that the party has been approached by many others to form alliances with it.

“PML-F leaders will visit Punjab soon in order to hold meetings with different political parties,” he said. Regarding the alliance with NPP, he said that the two parties will formulate a joint strategy on various issues and support each other’s candidates in the elections.
