Alleged beating: Clerks strike to support co-worker

SARGODHA: Education Department clerks on Thursday boycotted work locking their office and protesting against a lawyer for allegedly beating a clerk. They chanted slogans against the lawyer and demanded that the officials concerned take notice of the incident. According to them, Advocate Rana Shaukat and some of his colleagues had beaten Naeem Akhtar, a junior clerk at the Education Department on Thursday morning when the latter was leaving a court after a hearing. Akhtar said the lawyer had slapped him. He said later some of his colleagues had joined him in beating [Akhtar]. Advocate Shaukat denied having beaten Akhter. He said he had only had an argument with Akhter after he misbehaved with him (Shaukat) outside the court.
