LAHORE: A total of eight athletes have tested positive in dope tests conducted after the National Athletics Championship held last month.

The athletes include three female athletes from Wapda, namely Nadia Nazir, Rozina Shafqat and Shagufta Nureen, Zara Razzaq from Pakistan Steel, Olympian Sumaira Zahoor and Mohammad Wasim, Mohammad Imran and Asif Javaid from Pakistan Army.

The Anti Doping Organisation of Pakistan had conducted the tests using kits provided by the World Anti Doping Agency, with the National Athletics Championship using up more than two dozen doping kits.

The Athletics discipline was omitted for the Commonwealth Games due to claims that the top sprinters in the country were not competitive enough for the event.
