Gambling den busted

Police recovered valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees from the gamblers’ possession

The Margalla police raided a gambling den in G-9 Markaz and recovered valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees from the gamblers’ possession, a police spokesman said on Wednesday.


Margalla Police Station House Officer Inspector Muhammad Hussain Lasi said that IGP Islamabad Bani Amin Khan had ordered a crackdown on gambling.

Following his directions, a special team under Lasi’s supervision raided the basement of Laraib Centre in G-9 Markaz and recovered cash, four computers, fax machines, telephones and balloting receipts.

Police also arrested Hameed for running the gambling den using lottery receipts while four other gamblers – Abdul Ghaffar, Tariq Javed, Shaukat Ali and Maroof – were also nabbed during the raid. Also, another Margalla police team arrested two proclaimed offenders – Javed and Shamraiz – wanted for bootlegging.
