ISLAMABAD:

Civil rights activists on Wednesday held a demonstration against the attack on Muhabbat-i-Sindh rally in Karachi, that took place a day before. During  the rally in the provincial capital on Tuesday a dozen political activists lost their lives and many more were injured.

Members of Workers Party Pakistan, Labour Party Pakistan and Awami Party Pakistan assembled in front of the National Press Club, against the recent killings in Karachi and expressed solidarity with victims’ families. The protesters were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the govt.

Speaking on the occasion, party representatives said that Karachi has been held at gunpoint by an organised fascist party for the past three decades, which is unwilling to accept the legitimate right of other political forces to articulate dissenting points of view and to share the city’s resources.

They said there was clear evidence during yesterday’s rally and the recent operation in Lyari that law-enforcement agencies either stood idly or themselves perpetrated violence against innocents. Residents of Karachi know who was behind the violence, they added.

The protesters alleged that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in particular was permitting such attacks. They also criticised the military establishment for continuing to manipulate political forces to wreak havoc in Karachi.
