KARACHI:

There has been a reshuffling in the railway police with some officers being removed over corruption charges.

Last week, Gohar Sultan took over as Station House Officer (SHO) of Karachi Cantt station after the deputy inspector general (DIG) of railways removed Anwar Bano and other personnel of seven police stations under its jurisdiction over corruption charges.

Mohammad Afzal has replaced Arbab Solangi as SHO Landhi, Mohammad Saleem replaced Tariq Laghari as SHO Kotri, Ibrahim Abro replaced Zulfkar Shah as SHO Hyderabad, Raja Zaman replaced Javed Akhtar as SHO Mirpur Khas, and Niaz Khoso replaced Mohammmad Haroon as SHO Dadu.

Acting Superintendent Police (SP) Karachi Jamshed Hameed Butt confirmed the changes and said that the officers who were removed had been directed to report to railway police headquarters in Karachi and Lahore.

“We want to give relief to the people and therefore have to eradicate corruption, black marketing of tickets, overcharging and encroachment of railway property. We needed to make some staff changes and now hope to provide better service to people.” Butt said that security at the police stations would also improve.
