Healthier hearts: Hospital arranges awareness walk

Participants carried banners and placards speaking about hypertension and other cardiac diseases.

FAISALABAD: Cardiology Department of the Allied Hospital arranged an awareness walk to mark World Hypertension Day on Thursday. Punjab Medical College (PMC) Principal Dr Zahid Yaseen Hashmi and Cardiology Department In-charge Dr Hafeez Chaudhary led the walk. The participants carried banners and placards speaking  about hypertension and other cardiac diseases.

Speaking to the participants, Dr Hashmi said that one-third of the world’s population was suffering from hypertension. He said there were 12 million patients in Pakistan and 2 million in Faisalabad suffering from the disease. He said that hypertension was curable if detected and treated timely. Speakers said that the World Hypertension Day was started by the World Hypertension League (WHL) on May 14, 2005, an umbrella organisation for 85 national hypertension societies.
