A caricature of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman was removed during a photo exhibition, ironically titled ‘Intolerance’, at the Nishtar Hall Gallery on Wednesday.
One of the participants told The Express Tribune that another caricature of the JUI-F chief was already removed earlier on the insistence of some political figures.
The 10-day programme, titled ‘Face Off,’ aimed at countering growing intolerance and radicalism, concluded on Wednesday.
The work that was removed depicted the JUI-F chief emerging from a lamp. It was removed on the order of a senior bureaucrat. The artists, Nida and Saima from the Department of Fine Arts, University of Peshawar, were disheartened.
“We portrayed him the way we saw him and there was nothing extraordinary about it,” Saima said.
“It was an artistic attempt and everyone should have at least some guts to accept it,” she added.
Syed Saifuddin, another student of the same department, told The Express Tribune that the organisers removed another such caricature that he had drawn a day earlier.

its just like bombing for peace, or killing to prevent murders, If you want to depict tolerance than be tolerant and do not target a particular figure or person that in accordance to your opinion is intolerant, We must stop targeting individuals, personal attacks must be avoided and the over-all idea or issue must be addressed, What these artists are trying to do is being intolerant and spreading intolerance to promote tolerance wow! Mission accomplished guys!
it is good step by authority.
@Kanwal
Liberal (apparently) & good looking are Corrupt while others have beard on their face, feeling really sorry for you.........LOL!
@sheda_Rambo
We follow him, not because of religion but because of his clean history, no corruption scandal!
this is an exhibition of intolerance at the exhibition of tolerance :)))
Why is he called as Maulana Diesel? is there a story behind it?
Put the images on the internet and post a link so I can see them.
If you don't want to be depicted as a douche in art and history, you shouldn't act like one as a public figure.
I never want to support any of our current politicians by any means, but don't you think that instigating some group, based on how I / WE perceive them would be helpful in countering intolerance, however I don't even get the idea of joining these two self contradictory words together as a title ...
hahahaha LOL @sheda_Ramo .... Diesel Engine.... muwahahaha
When an exhibition was thrashed for having a controversial painting of Benazir Bhutto a couple of years back, some people even from the media justified it. And PPP is supposed to be a progressive, liberal party. I'm actually amazed that in this case just a request (read directive) was made and the exhibition and artists were spared.
May be the "Removing" Authority wanted some Diesel Engine instead of "Lamp" .....
its hard to believe that how people can follow personalities like him in the name of religion . Pity .....
