FAISALABAD:

Dozens of people staged a demonstration, blocking a main road near Chak 504-GB, on Friday to protest a killing of a relative.

Several protesters and two policemen suffered minor injuries in a clash following an attempt by the police to seize the body.

The demonstration ended after senior policemen arrived on the scene and assured the protesters that the attackers would soon be arrested.

A murder case was later registered with Mamu Kanjan police against six men – former union council nazim Ali Razzaq, Mazhar Shah, Rajab Ali, Mand Shah, Ikram and Abrar Shah – on a complaint by Ghulam Fareed, brother of the deceased Shahid Iqbal.

The FIR said Iqbal had tried to intervene on seeing his friend Ghulam Abbas, a resident of Garh Fateh Shah, beaten up by Mazhar Shah and Rajab Ali.

He was shot and killed and Abbas suffered a bullet injury in his leg. Police said Abbas had kidnapped a woman relative of the suspects.
