LAHORE:

Justice Umar Ata Bandial of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday sought a reply from the election commission of Pakistan on how an election tribunal is constituted. The court was hearing a petition against acceptance of Dr Babar Awan’s nomination for election to the Senate.

The hearing was then put off till June 8 due to unavailability of Awan’s counsel Barrister Ali Zafar.

Lawyer Shahid Jami, the petitioner, has alleged that Awan had accumulated assets that did not match with the amount of income tax paid by him.

He said that Awan had also ridiculed the judiciary for which the Supreme Court had suspended his licence.
