The lawyers of Mirpur boycotted courts for the second consecutive day on Friday to protest against the failure of police in arresting the culprits behind the attempted murder of Azad Jammu and Kashmir High Court chief justice.
Addressing the protesters, Mirpur District Bar Association leaders said the police have failed to arrest the culprits despite the passage of six months, which hints at the government’s insincerity towards dealing with the issue.
They warned that the protest could be extended to other parts of the region with the coordination of lawyers’ community who stood behind the Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mughal.
On October 25, 2011, the top judge was shot while he was taking an evening walk in Muzaffarabad.
The incident spread panic and concern among lawyers and the judiciary and despite the passage of six months, the police seem to be clueless about the suspects.
