Voting rights for transgenders: NADRA organises activity to issue ID cards

Activity held in Lahore to issue identity cards, help transgenders register votes.

LAHORE: In light of the Supreme Court’s order, an activity was organised in Lahore on Monday to issue computerised identity cards to transgenders and help them register their votes in the electoral rolls.

The activity was organised by provincial election commissioner of Punjab and district election offices of Punjab with collaboration of Social Welfare, National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) and Election Commission of Pakistan.

According to a statement, at least 41 transgenders attended the activity, out of which three, who fulfilled the requirements, have registered their votes.

The data of the remaining ones has been collected by Nadra for the issuance of computerised ID cards, after which they will get their votes registered in the electoral rolls.
