SUKKUR:

More than eight shops and four katcha houses burnt to the ground in Mirpur Mathelo and Pano Aqil on Saturday. According to sources, a fire broke out at the Sindh-Punjab bus stand in Mirpur Mathelo and burnt down more than eight shops.

Sharif Khoso, Akbar Abbasi, Ismail Khoso and other shop owners later protested against the incident and blocked traffic along the National Highway.

They alleged that some people were trying to encroach upon the land where their shops were located and had set fire to their cabins.

Police reached the spot and assured the protesters that the culprits would be caught. In an unrelated incident, a fire broke out in Nazir Indhar’s house in Mithoo Indhar village near Pano Aqil, and quickly spread to nearby houses. As a result, four houses were reduced to ash while five buffaloes were burnt alive. Indhar said that a short circuit had caused the fire.
