80 take part in Mirpur’s first mini-marathon

MIRPUR:


For a first in Mirpur, a 5km mini-marathon was organised by the of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) Sports Board on Saturday. Around 80 people, mostly youth, participated in the race to raise awareness about the health benefits of running and walking, and to persuade people to take up the healthy habits.


The marathon started from Octroi Post, near the Azad Kashmir Radio Station on Kotli Road, and culminated at the Quaid-i-Azam International Cricket Stadium Mirpur. Out of the dozens who participated, Asim Jehagir of Youth Football Club stood first in the race; while Usman Ali, a student of Government Degree College Mirpur, and Ibrar Ahmed, a student of Government Boys High School Sango, secured the second and third positions respectively.

Deputy Commissioner Masoodur Rehman distributed prises among the three winners at the Sports Stadium. Youth, civil society members and elders lauded the efforts of the sports board.
