Tennis: Aqeel, Yasir cruise into quarters

KARACHI: Aqeel Khan, Usman Ijaz, Yasir Khan and Mohammad Muddasir cruised into the quarter-finals of the Subhe Nau National Clay Court Tennis Championship men’s singles event underway in Islamabad. Aqeel defeated Asim Shafiq 6-3, 6-3 while Ijaz outplayed Jibranul Haq 6-2, 6-2. Yasir thrashed Ahmed Babar 6-2, 6-0. Mohammad Abid also booked a place in the last-eight after defeating Ahmed Chaudhry 6-2, 6-1. Meanwhile, Aqeel and Yasir reached the semi-finals of the doubles event after beating Sanaullah Khan and Sadanul Haq 6-2, 6-3 in the quarter-final. In another doubles match, Khurram Nazir and Imran Shaukat crushed Asad Abdul Shakoor and Ahmed Mahmood 6-0, 6-0, whereas, Ijaz along with former Davis Cupper Hameedul Haq outplayed Malik Abdul Rehman and Ali Murad 6-1, 7-6.
