Sindh government seeks to legalise out-of-turn police promotions

KARACHI: In an attempt to legalise out-of-turn police promotions, members of Sindh government have been suggested by legal experts to get a favourable law passed in the Sindh Assembly, Express News reported on Wednesday.

More than 4,000 police officers and 56 government officials were unduly promoted to higher ranks.

Supreme Court of Pakistan had issued a notice, ordering to demote such officers to their earlier held positions.

According to sources, legal advisors have advised the government to pass a law in the assembly which legalises out-of-turn promotions. The Sindh Law Department has already started looking into legal issues with regards to a law that would protect the promoted officers and whether such a decision can or cannot be challenged in any court of law.
