Unfortunate: Mother rescued, baby drowns in canal

Police official reveals Jamila Bibi was fetching water when both of them slipped.

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A baby boy drowned while his mother was rescued after they had slipped into the Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) on Sunday. Talking to The Express Tribune, a police official revealed that 35-year-old Jamila Bibi, holding her 18-month-old son Muhammad Afdan, was fetching water when both of them slipped. Passersby saw them and rushed to rescue the mother and son. However, they were not able to rescue the ill-fated baby. Afdan’s corpse was later fished out of the canal and handed over to the family.
