DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Sub-tribes of the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe signed a peace agreement in a jirga held in South Waziristan Agency on Friday.

An official of the agency’s political administration told The Express Tribune that the jirga was held among the Tojikhel, Khojalkhel, Gangikhel and Zalikhel sub-tribes. However, no one from the political administration was invited.

The deal will be applicable only to the Pakistani Ahmadzai tribesmen, said an elder of the Tojikhel tribe Malik Gingrhay Khan. The tribe is spread over Pakistan and Afghanistan.

He also said that Bermal sub-district of Wana subdivision was chosen as the location for the deal due to its sensitive nature.

Khan said that the jirga decided that any Bermal resident from these sub-tribes, if found guilty of a serious crime, will be fined Rs5,000 to Rs1 million, depending on the nature of the crime. In case of murder, the culprit’s house will be demolished and the tribe will socially boycott his family. If possible, he will be disowned by the Ahmadzai tribe.

Tribal elders Malik Ginghray Khan, Malik Wareh Khan, Malik Qadar Khan, Janan Khan and Pir Maath Khan signed the peace deal on behalf of the sub-tribes.
