LAHORE:

Justice Jawwad S Khawaja of the Supreme Court on Wednesday expressed concern over the performance of the Prosecution Department, saying it was ineffective.

Justice Khawaja said the government hade made a positive move by establishing the department, but it had yet to make it effective. He said the advocate general’s office had done a good job of assisting the courts.

The judge was hearing a case for the recovery of a maid allegedly abducted from the Shadman house of her employer. On Wednesday, Model Town Division SP (Investigations) Ijaz Shafi Dogar again appeared before the court to report that no progress had been made. The judge criticised both investigators and prosecutors, saying neither appeared to have even read the police file.

The court adjourned the hearing till April 11 and directed the SP to produce the maid on that date.

Petitioner Muhammad Ishaq of Nankana Sahib had submitted that his daughter Sobia, a maid at the Shadman house of Muhammad Attique, had been kidnapped.
