FAISALABAD:

Gahr police have registered a murder case against the wife of a tenant farmer found killed near his house on Sunday night.

SHO Azhar Hussain said the body of Ghulam Sarwar, a resident of Chak 53/4-GB, was spotted floating in the canal by a neighbour Zameer Ahmed. He said the cause of death would be ascertained once the report of a post mortem examination was available. However, he said, initial investigation suggested that the man had been strangled, possibly by his wife Shehnaz Bibi, 31, and his body dumped in the canal.

Sarwar’s neighbours accused Shehnaz Bibi of killing him. They said he had suspected her illicit relations with other men in the village. They said the deceased, a tenant at Mehr Shaukat’s fields, had gone missing on Sunday night. They said Sarwar had also been well known in the area for his struggle for the cause of landless tenant farmers.
