Six people, including five of a family, were hospitalised in a critical condition presumably on taking poisonous tea at their house in Madina Town on Sunday. Dr Muhammad Yousaf, who treated the family at District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, stated that the patients had yet to gain consciousness. He said the cause of their condition could be ascertained after the report of a chemical examination of food samples was available. He said the samples had been sent to a laboratory in Lahore.
Meer Chowk Madina Town resident Kamran, his wife Maryam and their children Imran, 24, Maria, 18, and Naila, 20, and a relative Zahida, 40, were taken to the hospital by a Rescue 1122 team called to the spot by a neighbour. Rescue officials said tea had been served in the room where the six people wer found lying unconscious.
Madina Town police said they would wait for the medical examination report to decide if there was a need to register a case in the matter.
