Students from nursery to A’ levels conquered the ground in high spirits at Pakistan Sports Complex on Saturday morning, engaging in egg-and-spoon, relay and sack races in addition to high and long jumps.

The event was held to mark the annual sports day of Westminster School and College, which was attended by as many as 200 students besides a large number of parents who were cheering for their children.

“It was refreshing to participate in these races for a change. Thank God I got first position in the 30-metre race. I had hoped to win the sack race as well but unfortunately I lost,” said Ali Hussain, one of the students.

Anum Khalid, another student of O’ levels, who got first position in high jump, said it has been her childhood dream to become a good athlete.

Parents, who had come to support their children, said such energetic activities are extremely important for children in today’s modern age.

“These activities encourage children’s athletic development, which is really necessary as most of them remain confined to computers and video games in today’s world,” said Sara Hameed, one of the visitors.

Westminster Section Head Asma Syed said that the main objective of the sport day was to give an environment to students where they can showcase their talents in a healthy competition.

Students were given prizes at the end of the event.
