5.4 magnitude earthquake hits K-P, northern areas

The earthquake occurred around 9:30am and the epicenter was around 100 kilometres north-west of Chitral.

PESHAWAR: A 5.4 magnitude earthquake jolted Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province and northern areas of Pakistan on Saturday morning, officials of the Meteorological Department have said.

The earthquake occurred around 9:30am and the epicenter was around 100 kilometres north-west of Chitral. Areas hit by the earthquake included Chitral, Dir, Mardan, Peshawar, Gilgit and Baltistan.

“The depth of the quake was 210 kilometres and its center was in Afghanistan, while the tremors were even recorded in Muree,” an official of the met department told The Express Tribune.
