Human rights: Report to be sent to UN by October

LAHORE: Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Human Rights Amna Imran Khan held a meeting with Home Secretary Shahid Khan here on Wednesday. They discussed the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) report to be submitted to the United Nations by October this year. The UPR, established by UN General Assembly in 2006, is a human rights mechanism which obliges all 192 member states to submit a report on their human rights obligations and commitments once every four years. Pakistan submitted its first UPR Report in 2008. The first draft is expected to be finalised by May this year, a Ministry of Human Rights handout stated. Amna Imran Khan also met the Law, Prosecution and Human Rights Department secretaries.
