KARACHI:

The leaders of different labour unions bitterly critised the privatisation of all the institutions because they “will increase unemployment and inflation.” They demanded that the government nationalise all the institutions again.

The representatives were talking at Sindh Workers Conference, organised by Pakistan Workers Confederation Sindh. Labour representatives from Balochistan and Punjab were also present.

The members of the conference unanimously passed a resolution demanding that the government increase workers’ salaries and devolve the labour ministry. They also carried red flags.

Sindh Minister for Labour Amir Nawab, accepted that the conditions of the workers needed to be improved. “Inflation, poverty and unemployment have pushed the workers below poverty line,” he said.

“The closure of industries and privatisation has disturbed the economy. The government is aware of all such issues and is striving to tackle them.”
