ISLAMABAD:

A police constable escaped a brazen attack by a group of armed gunmen near Nilore police station on Friday night.

According to police sources, Constable Safeer Ahmed was intercepted while crossing a deserted road in Chirah by four gunmen, who had blocked the road with large stones. The roadblock made the constable suspicious and he immediately took a U-turn to head back. The move, however, prompted the gunmen to open fire on his vehicle. The constable received a bullet on his back but he managed to drive away and reached a medical clinic in Moza Kalliha.

The police official has been shifted to Pims. Doctors said that the official received a bullet near his backbone, adding that it is too soon to tell if the injury caused any permanent damage.
