SIALKOT:

Dozens of people including relatives of a youth found killed on Friday, a week after he was kidnapped from Uggoki, staged a demonstration over the rising incidence of kidnapping-for-ransom in the area on Saturday.

They placed the body of Manzar Ali, 23, on the road and chanted slogans against the police for its failure to maintain law and order.

Ali’s body was found floating in Bambaanwala-Ravi-Badiana (BRB) canal near Binna-Satrah village in Daska on Friday night. The body was fished out of the canal by members of Young Blood Foundation, a non-governmental organisation.

He had been kidnapped from near his home Moma Kalan village in Uggoki a week ago.

The relatives of the deceased said the kidnappers had demanded Rs1.5 million ransom and threatened to kill Ali if police were informed about the incident. They said they had told the kidnappers that they could not afford to pay such a huge amount. The deceased was buried at his native graveyard on Saturday. Police have registered a case and started investigation. PPI
