Chinoy’s documentary “Saving face” won an Oscar award under the category ‘Best Documentary, Short Subject’.
In her acceptance speech, Chinoy dedicated the award to “all the heroes working on the ground in Pakistan” including British Pakistani plastic surgeon Dr Mohammad Jawad, main subjects of the documentary and the women of Pakistan.
The documentary, which is filmed across Islamabad, Rawalpindi and the small towns of Punjab, was released in the US in November. It is due to release in the UK in March 2012, following which it will be released in Pakistan.

Have you seen Sharmeen's work? she deserves the award- She won an Emmy in 2010- She talks about issues we dont want 2- Apart from films, shes been preserving Pakistan's history for 5 years through CAP- Finally someone worthy and not some politician is getting this award- Thank you Pakistan
While getting an Oscar is a great achievement, why hilal e imtiaz? Has she done this documentary for Pakistan? No. It was done for international audience and thats why it hasn't premiered in Pakistan yet. This governemt has made a mockery of national awards anyways. May be they should start selling all these awards in Islamabad Jumaa bazaar.
Good move by government to honour Sharmeen for her excellent film highlighting the issue of acid attacks, I hope this film will result in government's seriousness in enforcing the newly passed law against acid attacks and that we also see a considerable reduction in acid attacks by the end of this year.
Hilal Imtiaz for what ? just because she co-directed a documentary and that also in a short subject. And the concept was conceived by Danierl Junge. I am sure there are so many deserving women contributing to the improvement in the lives of women including Shad Begum who hails from Lower Dir of Malakand who has been rewarded International Women of Courage Award.
Why this nation is going Crazy over one short documetary. Hilal Imtiaz??? Our standards are too low.
@Faisal: It makes all the difference getting the highest civialian award in your own country. She is not getting the award for the documentary but because she won the oscar. So obviously she would get it after that.
Why we always react late in everything? bhhhfff!
So the government wakes up after international recognition has been awarded. With all these awards flying around, is anything being done by governments for the victims of acid attacks and the perpetrators ?
Dr.Jawad also He should also be appointed as honorary health secretary of PAK, among other things. Heloooooo?
@s shah: Agree completely. There are many like him who work under the radar. However, we need people like Sharmeen to make their stories come alive. Yes, both should be handsomely awarded.
Why government recognizes her efforts after a foreign appreciation (Oscar) I think it's too late now!! even if the government annouces a NISHAN E HAIDER to her It would make no difference to her !!
Congratulations to the whole team who were involved in making the film 'Saving Face'.
People who are projecting 'wrong' are highly appreciated in the society. Now it is up to the people to do 'right' wherever they see that anything 'wrong' is going on.
A very good effort by Sharmeen and her entire team.
All the members of the team deserve standing ovation and applause.
Good News. However, I feel the plastic surgeon, Dr. Mohammad Jawad should also be recognized and given a Hilal Imtiaz. People like him should be cherished by our country.
Good news !! But I think order tells a lot about us. First Oscar and them Hilal-e-Imtiaz. Order should have been reversed.
