QUETTA: Unknown persons blew up a railway track in Kishangi area of Naushki, about 148 kilometres southwest of Quetta, in the early hours of Thursday.

According to an official of Balochistan Levies, a four feet portion of the track was blown up when an explosive device attached to the track went off.

A heavy contingent of Levies and security forces reached the spot soon after the powerful explosion and cordoned off the area.

“It was subversive act but it would be premature to comment which group is behind this attack,” an official said, adding that earlier unknown persons had targeted railway track in Chagai district that shares border with Naushki, derailing a freight train.

According to Pakistan Railways, no train was passing through the area when the blast took place. A team has been sent to the area to repair the damaged track.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack. Balochistan Levies force mounted a manhunt in the area soon after the explosion.
