Nawaz was all praise for Marvi, who formally announced joining the party on Sunday, at a joint press conference at his house in Raiwind. “Marvi’s approach towards issues is pragmatic. She will prove to be an asset for the party,” he said, expressing confidence that she will be able to win her seat in the general elections.
Marvi, a former member of the National Assembly, quit the PML-Q after the party joined the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party to form a coalition government in June 2011. Recently, political observers speculated that Marvi, whose father Nisar Memon is still with the PML-Q, will join Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf that has been attracting many political heavyweights.
According to sources, Marvi is likely to be offered the task of developing the party’s approach towards women’s rights and might even be made an MNA over one of two vacant lower house seats. Sources also said that the party’s legislative performance in the house will be judged by Marvi, along with Ahsan Iqbal and Engineer Khurram Dastgir.
But both Nawaz and Marvi were tight-lipped.
Nawaz said he has not yet decided on an assignment for her but besides her desired task, she will look after the party Sindh affairs as well. Marvi said she will serve the party as a worker and does not want any ranks.
The meeting between Marvi and Nawaz was attended by PML-N’s senior leaders Ghous Ali Shah, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Pervaiz Rasheed, PML-N Central General Secretary Zafar Iqbal Jhagra and Anusha Rehman. Nawaz’s daughter Maryam and her husband Captain (retd) Safdar, who had supported Nawaz in negotiations with Marvi, were also present.
‘I’m honoured to join’
“I’m very honoured and privileged to be a part of the PML-N and to accept the leadership of Nawaz Sharif,” Marvi said.
Talking about her support to General Pervez Musharraf, during whose tenure she actively campaigned for a women’s rights bill, Marvi said that her first encounter with the PML-N was when she saw it fight for democracy against Musharraf. “I learnt a lesson about establishment politics in those three years and decided to part ways.”
But while she tendered an apology over her past statements against the PML-N, she said she still stood by them.
In a veiled reference to the PTI, Marvi said that since she resigned, she examined various political parties and their leaders making ‘fake’ promises of change. “I even contemplated going independent. But the PML-N is the right party [for me] which, according to its manifesto, will bring the country out of the clutches of the prevailing problems.”
Comparing the two leaders, she said that Imran is arrogant while Nawaz is a serious, mature and down-to-earth leader and has a deep understanding of issues.
She said that the PML-N follows policies that adhere to democracy and respect an independent judiciary and the rule of law. It wants to bring the armed forces under the ambit of the parliament, have good relations with neighbouring countries and dignified ties with super powers.
Last month, Pakistani officials complained to Karzai on the issue while he attended a trilateral summit hosted by Pakistan and attended by Afghanistan and Iran. Balochistan officials have also raised the issue of cross-border infiltration into the province. Last month, Afghan security forces, chasing militants, also intruded inside Qilla Saifullah and killed two men.
In response to Islamabad’s request, Kabul has formally given its assurance to stop the infiltration of militants from Kandahar to Balochistan’s border district Chaman.
But, on the other hand, Afghan security forces have also been blaming Islamabad for clandestine support to Taliban militants. Pakistani officials have accused Afghan security forces for supporting Quetta Shura – the top Taliban leadership council – for plotting terror incidents in the province.
Visas to American citizens
Pakistan will not extend visas of American citizens without any solid reasons, according to Malik. “No American citizen will be allowed to enter Pakistan without valid documents. They will only be allowed inside Pakistan if they seek proper permission from the interior and foreign ministries.”
Check on private security firms
Malik said that the interior ministry has kept a check on private security firms’ activities since he assumed charge in 2008. “Their no-objection certificates (NoCs) are being verified. Heads of these firms have been asked to renew their NoCs and licences as and when they expire.”
Nawaz versus Shujaat
Responding to Nawaz’s statement, PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said that the Sharif brothers had themselves invited former dictator Ziaul Haq and took him to the house to address the assembly. “They should first tender their apology over their behaviour and then demand one from others.”
He ruled out an alliance with the N-league but said the door for negotiations should always remain open.
However sources within the PML-N said that PML-Q’s General Secretary Mushahid Hussain Syed is in talks with the PML-N leadership. They said that Nawaz’s statement was an indication that he was ready to accept them.
Nawaz’s negotiations with PML-Q’s disgruntled leaders Humayoun Akthar, Sheikh Rashid and Ejazul Haq are underway but the PML-N has not yet started talking with the Chaudhrys of Gujrat.
Sharif versus Gilani
When asked about the prime minister’s confident statement that he wasn’t going anywhere, Nawaz said that the PML-N has been objecting against the government’s attitude as the prime minister keeps issuing and retracting statements.
“If he does not want to be remembered in good words, he should at least respect the office he continues to keep,” Nawaz said.
He said that the PML-N forced the PPP into passing the 20th amendment as it gives the constitutional guarantee of a caretaker set-up and a transparent election commission.

@Haider: The matter of the fact is that she rejected the PTI...Because she soon realized that PTI is an establishment party....So, she ask for forgiveness from the Nation...as being the Part of PML Q an establishment part...To conclude, PML N is the only party which has right view about establishment...Due to Chief Justice and Mian Nawaz Sharif ....Kiyani failed to launch a Martial Law....
I don't know what to hate your decision, You or the party you've joined. We thought Marvi had some sense but your actions does not support this popular belief. And please stop showing that you know the solutions to grass root issues in Pakistan, just by talking smartly does not mean you are also committed to prove.
HUGE dissappointment Marvi ....what a choice ... pl pl dont TALK about "change" ANYMORE...!!
good luck to her, but my vote strictly for IK>>>>>>>>>>........
People forget that Marvi Memon and her father Nisar Memon were die hard supporters of the dictator General Pervaiz Musharraf. In fact Musharraf created Marvi Memon and now she's stabbed him too in the back.
Curious thing is how desperate PML N must be that it has to eat humble pie to have to accept General Musharraf's creation in their party.
And what is Marvi Memon going on about establishment party. She was a Musharraf sycophant for years when it suited her and now when basically any hope of her political career are on the verge of vanishing she's joined the PML N to save it.
I must say the PTI is very lucky to not have such a turncoat in their party. Imran Khan well done by not accepting her. You are a man of real honesty and courage and the last hope for Pakistan.
PML N you will realize your grave mistake soon.
Wow, she felt so honoured and previliged that she had to repeat this three times :) Now what do you say about nawaz sharif who political existence is owed to a dictator?
@zishan:
cronies of musharraf? you mean like all the other parlimentarians who are joining the PTI. no one was a crony of musharraf. they joined because president musharraf was the true first reformer pakistan had after NS tried to destroy the country. all stupid pakistanis should be glad that 1999 happened otherwise pakistan would have ceased to exist then. idiots.
@Anwar: i think you dont know the fact that she was rejected by pti CEC. yes its true, IK did sign her appointment letter which was drafted by marvi herself becs she was so desperate .later when IK took this issue before CEC, they refused to take her it becs her demands were too high ,much higher than her political stature. and now she was only left with one choice pmln. what a shame
I still remember how passionately Marvi Sahiba used Pervez Musharraf's posters in Gilgit Baltistan election. And I also remember she tweeted a pic captioned "People simply Love Him [Musharraf] Here". And now, when asked about if Musharraf should be tried under Article 6, she says her thoughts are along her new party's "line". What a "change" Marvi. I don't care you join PTI, PMLN or JJP [Jeri Jitti Party], all I care is that you are no better than any other illiterate politician jumping from one party to another. May be, PMLN deserved you and May be, PTI is better off without you. But, in my humble opinion, you have no "stand" now; whether principle or self-based.
Nawaz has forgotten his political father zia ul haq.
highly dissappointed she just did'nt join pti beacuase of her ego becuase she was not given sectery information designation in pti and now she can expect a big rank in sindh from pmln who desperately want to gain some seats in sindh as well
@Bilal Irfan: Well said
I've always visioned Ms. Marvi Mamon a straight shooter, like Mr. Imran Khan. She would serve the nation better with a defining role, if PTI could muster enough to form a government
From now on, no important personality will join PTI, instead we will see few ( there are not many) important people leaving PTI. Now friends have started running away from Run Away Bride.
Marvi has brought herself at par with Ex-PM Nawaz Sharif in a specially convened press conference. Well, I think she could have joined by sitting together with tier 2 leadership of PML-N instead of Nawaz Sharif.
I don`t think, she is there to serve the people, but herself. She is truely following her fathers steps. Remember " **You can deceive all of the people some of the times, some of the peoples all of the times, but never all of the people all of the times"
Sorry to loose a good one to Sharif Clan. Perhaps they made an offer she couldn't refuse. After all everyone has some stakes to play ..........
We expected more from you. Anyways best of luck but my vote is still for PTI.
just thinking, has Nawaz sharif ever appologized for supporting Zia (Dictator)?
Good decision by Marvi.
Unfortunate that she became a fallen victim to the disease that she so eloquently diagnosed in the past.
Is he not the product of a dictator? In fact the wealth they have amassed was during the tenure of dictator Zia.It's a polical blunder she will one day write in her biography.
Who is she?? and btw my memories of nawaz sharif r he was a supporter of a dictator. Everyone in the west saw him as a army backed politician. So has mr sharif apologised for supporting the isi n dictators??
her decision should be respected, her joining or not joining PTI will not make a difference...the future nshallah belongs to PTI..IK we are with you
I think the way she has messed up in past few weeks she deserved to be booted out to PMLN and that is the best place for her to be in. She will have same people like her in the PMLN while she might have to face hard time in PTI due to uprightness. Even SMQ is still being criticized by party workers. She could not bear criticism which is for her good-self. Anyway, this does not make any difference to PTI as the new voters list, we will clean Sweep KPK and Punjab and if things goes right we will sweep Baluchistan...
well done Marvi....You have left the U turn party....I think Imran Khan should continue boycotting the elections till PPP, PML, MQM, ANP, JUI-F, PML-F leave Pakistan...Imran should now manifest to participate elections in 2050..
Mushraff > Nawaz Shariff
Well, forget about PTI or PML(N).. I think something good has happened for the better future of Pakistan.. If for nothing else, we have to give credit to Imran khan for bringing awareness in the nation and forcing other political parties to bring forward talented people.. Mere slogans wont do it this time.. Change is here!
Marvi Memon sahiba 1. PML-Q 2.PTI 3.Ali Qazi 4.PML-N then ------------ANP OR MQM?
Marvi Memon's decision is not a sentimental decision.
She has judged all the political parties and then have concluded to join PML(N).
Everything else aside....I seriously don't want to live in Pakistan if IK is not elected. Enough is enough.
she probably realized that she needed to join a party with a presence in the assemblies in order to get her reserved women's NA seat again.
good luck marvi memon.
If you would have fought with PTI against principle many if us would have been standing behind you. But you choose easy way out and end up standing with Historically Tested Failed Hippocratic Ethnic party....Such a pity...Can't see how you will defend them on forums to come. You have disappointed change, disappointed Pakistan and most of all disappointed Sindh. Hope you will regain your conciousness shortly.
The reality is that you have joined another inept, nepotism driven political party, on par with the PPP. The power base is different to the PPP, but they are just as inept. Two stints in power and we were bankrupt at the end of the second one. Education deteriorated, everything they touched was marred with corruption and tarnished with failure. Their goons stormed courts and beat people up. Law and order deteriorated to such an extent that even the army head, General Karamat, complained. He was fired for his efforts. This is a man who claims that Pakistan was on the verge of becoming a tiger economy in 1999!!!! Good Luck. You'll need it.
another Ik prediction getting right.. Chaudhry brothers are also invited to join.... disgusting PMLn
part of establishment, past , present ,future, this is no big surprise
Out of frying pan into the fire.
Wow Marvi! I thought you were a dynamic, intelligent and brave woman. you honestly strove for change. But by joining the forces of status quo, you have greatly disappointed. Now you have joined the original establishment party. No wonder. You had served status quo and establishment quite well before.
of course.
somehow a drop in the ocean to avoid the khumani type "INQILAB" of the plan-less friends.
Bravo ! And PTI trolls, did you even listen to what the woman had to say? She was very clear of her reasons. She did mention that she was wrong to support Mush and PML(N) on many occasions admitted that they were wrong to support establishment. Like a contributor said, the difference is that PML(N) learned from the mistakes and so did Marvi Memon. At this point, they are the only one working for civilian democracy and that should be enough reason to vote for them. Status Quo hasn't been Zardari or other politicians my dear friends. It has always been the establishment. And now, at this moment, in 2012, whatever may have been the past allegiances of Nawaz Sharif, he is the only one challenging the establishment. That is what we all should strive for and Marvi Memon made an eloquent and quite clear case about it. Too bad instead of listening and thinking, most people are busy hating :)
Just a question about your poll. Why isn't there a third option, i.e. neither party? Would it have been so bad for Marvi to run as an independent?
i support you MM! you have made right choice!
ok, can you please remind us where were you at that time? You were in Musharraf's government DEFENDING HIM, Miss Principled Lady !!!!!
@Haider: IK personally invited Marvi to join PTI. She was the one who refused. Get your facts straight.
Sorry Marvi...but u r no more respected..!!
if any member of pml Q JOINS PML N then justified if join pti then wrong. what a logic pml N HAS
immature discion at the right time
@Fareed: Actually i liked PTI and i am not a supporter of any party. There is no new, young blood in PTI which we were hoping for. Tried and tested politicians are joining it. I have lost interest in it and so have many others. PTI should be given chance? Why? IK is great but he can't hold each and every minister. His team is incompetent. Votes are given to parties, not individuals. I don't believe that he could bring any change. Sorry!
Can anyone enlighten me?
Who is this lady? What is her political background/services? What are her qualifications? Has she ever been popularly elected to any public office?
As far as i remember, i had seen her with gen. Musharraf.
this we call is 'reverse gear'!
she always wants to be celebrity and tries to make headlines. if she had joined the PTI, as people were expecting, then it would not be a headline and she knows that fact very well, and by joining PLM(N) she has made a headline again, bravo!!!. But i know ,sooner or later, she will be sorry on her choice.
Oh poor Marvi you may feel honoured but for us it is quite shameful when we call politicians like Nawaz Sharif our leader. A leader acts and thats what Imran Khan has done which may not be visible right now but surely in the near future people will realise this fact.
What has Mr Sharif doing since 2008 other then saving Zardari's democracy. Well I gotta ask all the people one question here.... Do they still believe that PML-N is credible enough???Its time to look at the bigger picture........
PTI- Tsunami, is inevitable. She has done best to get her share.
So you were just a typical Pakistani politician! Most of us were so wrong about you! From now on NO respect for you Marvi!
Marvi Memon's joining in PML-N has ignited many PTI workers again, her joining in opposite camp is a blessing in disguise, we really need some catalyst and I hope it will act as a catalast, especially right now.
Politics of principles well suited to Pakistan. Abuse one day earlier and appreciate the following day.
Another Musharraf regiment in PML-N.
BTW Was Marvi unaware when she was drafting her contract with PTI which she showed on TV.
no doubt she is one of the good politicians we have in pakistan, but i dont like this decision of hers. MQM should have been her choice.. but anyway, good luck to her. Pakistan Zindabad
Marvi is definately not a corrupt politician!
for all my PTI fellas... please stop thinking and behaving like angles... your leader did such a great mischeifs which one even cannot jot down here.... so behave like humans... after getting rotten neggs from all over the pakistan PTI cannot claim that it will bring revolution... one who cannot run the Hospital he always taking credit of, without donations how he can run this country... so my babies take it easy and keep strathening ur ties with Altaf bhai against whom your so called revolutionest leader went to UK to get him prosecuted... and now.... shame on you guys who support PTI...
@Fareed: may i do the honor of telling you what they did for the poors ? Gave them HOME , gave them Sasti roti , gave them High-class Education through Danish schools!
This would be blessing in disguise for PTI and i'm surprised why media is giving her undue coverage. Marvi WHO!!!!,,she can't even get 1000 votes from any constituency on her own. Now PML-N would be hard press defending taking musharraf's team left-over, especially, she was extremely vocal on media in getting Musharraf reelected as president in uniform. Is this Nawaz and Mush alliance in making to fend off threat from PTI!!!
Today I wipe the memory of marvi memon from my mind , as she has chosen advancing her own career over the misery and the sufferings and the cryings of the people of pakistan.
This would be blessing in disguise for PTI and i'm surprised why media is giving her undue coverage. Marvi WHO!!!!,,she can't even get 1000 votes from any constituency on her own. well said fareed
Haider bhai day before yesterday she unveiled the letter from Imran Khan appointinf her Information secretary of PTI... so baby take it easy.... PML-N rocks... @Haider:
@Haider: bro watch this please http://youtu.be/f451H6hSzhg then u will understand betrly
This is much unfair..... first PTI CEC didn't let her join PTI....which she fought on media....but now when she joined..PML-N....... PTI supporters are terming it unwise decision and stuff like she shouldnt have joined PTI ......... plz let her in........then comment on her loyalty...:D
serious, mature down to earth leadership. That is the joke of the decade
The next lady to join PML.N will be SANA BUCHHA!!!
Disclaimer: I'm not a PTI follower Anyone talking against PTI should understand one thing: There are three kind of people in pakistan. 1. Die hard followers of political parties. 2. People who have lost hope of existing political parties (who were in govt.) and want to try some new party. 3. People who don't care
Now, believe me more then half of pakistan belongs to the second kind. The argument might be strong that PTI has included some old faces but as a whole its a party that didn't have yet the chance to come to be a govt. Let's give them a chance - what do we have to loose???
Miss Marvi's words..."I will serve the party as a worker, I don’t want any ranks.”. A very respectable and humble line. However, insiders have it that if you had taken a similar humble line with PTI and not asked for the second most senior position in the party, PTI won't have let you go either. Sooner or later, you will realize that you are another right person at a wrong place because of a suboptimal choice. Best of luck!
you still want to be part of corrupt democratic party. I feel sorry for you and for the people of pakistan who nominates corrupt leaders like you.
Biggest LOL ever!
Marvi , you are a huge disappointment , how could you accept nawaz sharif and shabaz sharif as your leader . so sorry for you .
Marvi accepts the leadership of Nawaz Sharif. Marvi, please ask your leader about the SROs on removal of duty on scrap iron for a few days, issued while he was Prime Minister, so that Ittefaq Foundries could have the raw material without paying any duty. Don't study your leader too closely - you might get palpitations. All the same, I hope you do well for your countryfolk wherever you are. Raise the moral standards of those around you and don't lose your integrity.
she will bring about change through hamza shahbaz? or I guess maybe maryam nawaz.
She is going to be wasted like she was in PML Q .
@Waqar hussain khan: Hmm. What about your rant of Musharraf ki baakiat. She openly rediculed and you took her in. Its like mujhe gaalia do aur mere dost ban jao. If you just hadn't this rubbish argument of Musharraf ki bakiaat then it was ok but now, sorry, you just exposed yourself.
What has happened to you Marvi??? Don't you know how Nawaz Sharif ran away from Pakistan with the help of Saudis. He has only done "Noora" wrestling with Zardari and PPP. Take my word Marvi, sooner or later, you will quit PML (N). And when you do that, then don't join any party. Instead sit at home.
M. RAFIQUE ZAKARIA Karachi
Great move!
PTI has been stinking of hypocrisy for some time. Any thinking and decent person would rather go with PML N.
“But now, after three years, I have learnt that politics can’t be done with an establishment’s party,” Memon stated.
PML-N has always been the most political of political parties. Time and again they have tried to make deals with the current PPP administration. PML-N may not do a worse job than what PPP has done over the last 4 years, but it will hardly be much better. Its not change. Its the same old currupt political cycle all over again. PTI may be far from perfect, but at least there's hope they might be different from the rest and we already know the others can't be trusted PML-N included.
oh u PTI fans are pathetic... when she was joining PTI it was ohk u ppl were wellcoming her nd she was a lady to raise the voice of justice..and now when she is joining PML N then she just became a loti in a while... u ppl r such loosers. thats why u wont nvr come in govt..u dnt have any democratic sense..
I didn't expected such thing from you Marvi. This is not your wisest decision
ohh catch drop by PTI , need to change the Captan
Bad choice. @Marvi Tell me one thing that PMLN did for the poor ( besides motorway and constitutional ammendments)
@PMLN followers How can you include someone like Marvi when you were complaining all the time about "Musharraf ki bakiat" ????!!!
Politics in Pakistan can only be done once ones own soul has been washed away.
2032 ... marvi memon .. senior politition PMLN .... Hamza's son.. president PMLN
time to become more strong PTI...
She gotta be kidding.... Where ever they (politician) go, In the beginning they find it really very great untill they decide to move to another great revolutionary party under great leadership. I'm just laughing... Pakistan Zinda Baad
we would ve solvd 50% issue(in punjab) we would ve resolved electrcity problm (in punjab) mian Nawaz sharif Pml(n) is good for punjab but worse then Ppp and mqm for sindh.they r only interestd in gaining power no matter how and where from they r getting that.
I can just laugh on everyone who thinks it would have any impact on PTI .... Can anyone tell me, what other options she had?
Good decision. Hope You will serve Pakistan much better from the Muslim League Platform.
i dont care who joins or leaves pti as long as long as javed hashmi is with pti. Javed hashmi is the real rebel not marvi memon any ways good luck marvi memon ...
Marvi Memon, what should we do with your media tirade which is recorded and part of history? In politics it is the self interest which is supreme, there are no values and principles.
Of all the parties she chooses PMLN. Disappointed at her choice. Thought she stood for much more than that. She will probably win but she loses her credibility, integrity. She could have won as an independent also.
Hard to swallow that a lady who had deep faith in IMRAN...joined nawaz league.. Allah knows everything..Inshallah PTI will sweep elections
Another turncoat in PML(N) camp...
@Haider: yeah still you guys were begging Marvi to join PTI ? :p
good for pml-n;
Good luck memon but still disappointment with your decsion:)
Good Luck Marvi. But my prayers are for Imran Khan bcz We need REVOLUTION..........
lol, khan u underestimined PML-M ;)
good luck marvi memon..!! but as for my loyalty and vote is concerned it will be for Imran Khan
It is a good thing. Competition beteen PTI and PML-N in Punjab will lead to better services for people. So both PTI and PML-N should stay here.
well anyways good luck to marvi memon. but i am sure she will regret her decision later she her self admits joining pml n wasnt a popular choice.
oh come on.. when PTI didn't accept you, you had no other choice but to join PML N.
Mature choice. And Marvi, please dont mind PTI BABOOS, they dont have slightest idea of ground realities in Pakistan.
good news
