RAHIM YAR KHAN:

As many as 94 families who had lost their houses in floods in 2010 were in a ceremony on Friday given keys to houses built for them in a model village near Rahim Yar Khan.

The families were selected through a ballot administered by DCO Ahmed Javed Qazi. They belonged to Rasool Pur, Katchi Mazi, Muslimabad, 46 NP, Baht Allaha Wasya and Mid Minthar villages.

Speaking at the occasion, the DCO said the flood of 2010 was one of the biggest challenges faced by the country so far. He said the disaster had helped bring people from different regions and backgrounds together in the relief and rehabilitation efforts. He said houses in the model villages constructed by the provincial government were equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. He said electricity supply and Sui Gas connections had been secured before handing over the keys to the families. Other facilities in the colony included solar power generators, a mosque, a school, playgrounds, dispensaries and vocational training institutes, he added. He urged the families who were given keys to their houses to approach the district administration if there were any complaints about the facilities. PML-N Divisional President Mian Khalid Shaheen, Chaudhry Mehmood and Chaudhry Asif were also present at the occasion.
