ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will pursue the resolution of former Premier Benazir Bhutto’s murder case, in an effort to fulfill the “long-standing” wish of senior Pakistan Peoples Party’s leaders, who had come into the PTI, party Chairman Imran Khan said on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference, Khan formally announced the joining of former PPP senior leader Dr Israr Shah. However the PTI chief clarified that his party would have pursued Benazir Bhutto’s case even if Shah had not joined them.

The new PTI entrant, sharing his reason for joining the PTI, said, “My sole purpose to join the PTI is to nab the killers of late Benazir Bhutto. Now, nobody can stop me from exposing those who were trying to cover up the murder. I am free to speak now and any attempt to stop me will be a disaster.”

Despite his brave claims, he desisted from divulging any new information at the press conference. Instead he now through the PTI, he would complete Benazir Bhutto’s unfinished agenda.

During the conference, Khan reiterated that the PTI will expose those who were involved in the murder of the former prime minister, when PTI will come into power.

“We had said this some three years back that it would be the PTI which would arrest her killers. The United Nation investigators’ special inquiry report on this case stated officials concerned did not cooperate fully to unearth the accused,” he pointed out.

Using this to build his case against the PPP, Khan said “It means there is something wrong with PPP leaders who are not serious about bringing the culprits to book.” The PTI will carry out protest demonstrations in all provinces, he added.

The PTI chief praised Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, by calling him a nationalist who had done a wonderful job by summoning an all Muslims countries conference during his tenure.

Talking about the various crises facing the nation, Khan said that the masses were unnecessarily being burdened and that the government needs to check prices instead of adding to the woes miseries of poor people.

“Masses became have poorer and poorer while rulers’ pockets are inflated with embezzled money,” he alleged.

The attack on Shia bus passengers in Kohistan a few days back was also condemned. “It is the government’s responsibility to ensure law and order,” he complained.

Apprehension about appointment of judges

He said that the appointment of judges through parliamentarians under the 18th amendment was a way to hide corruption. Khan said that anybody can join the PTI. “We don’t need anyone’s permission to allow people to join us,” he added.

Referring to the by-elections being conducted on old electoral lists, Khan said they would move the Supreme Court on the issue.
