KARACHI:

Among other rules, heavy vehicles such as trailers and tankers can only be on the main roads of Karachi from 11 pm to 7 am, reminded Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wassan, who wants stricter checks on them.

In a meeting held at his office on Thursday with the additional inspector general of traffic, Gen. Syed Zakir Hussain, the minister said that proper planning and implementation of laws can help to prevent traffic accidents.

According to the home minister, the traffic police had to ensure that people were maintaining the correct speed limits and staying in their designated lanes. He claimed that some officers were fining people unnecessarily and said that they would be punished.

Wassan said that any disputes between different factions of the tankers associations should be resolved and if any protests were taken out and they blocked the roads or flow of traffic, then action would be taken against them.

Only yesterday my uncle almost got run over by a trailer while trying to avoid hitting a kid crossing the main road with his bike. He ended up going to hospital and suffered from quite a lot of injuries. Trailers are not even allowed on that road during those particular hours. What I am saying is that laws are there, the constitution does exists in Pakistan but it is not enforced on everyone.
