KARACHI:

Shopkeepers in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) phase IV shut down their shops on Thursday evening and protested outside the Gizri police station. “Robberies take place daily here. Five shopkeepers were looted in a single day but police did not take any action. These crimes seriously affect our business,” complained a shop keeper, Imtiaz.

While speaking to The Express Tribune, Imtiaz said that criminals were free to roam around on 9th and 10th Commercial streets and rob anyone they feel like. “We don’t have time to shut our business every day and get the police’s attention. We’ll like them to know that we don’t earn for criminals. These robbers come, loot us and then leave, all in close proximity to the police station.”

Gizri SHO Syed Mohsin Mushhadi confirmed that some shopkeepers of the area gathered around the police station and complained about robberies in the area. “I assured them of complete security. Their demands are valid and we will take action against the criminals.” He added that he received reports of one robbery that day, not five.
