Chess: Lodhi loses 8th-round match
Lodhi lost to Arabi Saeid in the eighth round of the 2nd Ferdowsi and Khyam International Chess Open.

National champion Mehmood Lodhi lost to Arabi Saeid in the eighth round of the 2nd Ferdowsi and Khyam International Chess Open in Mashhad, Iran yesterday. Lodhi failed to follow up his seventh-round win over Iran’s Abedi Abolfazl with another victory. So far, he has won two matches in the tournament, while drawing three and losing the same number. However, Lodhi’s tournament ranking improved to 33 after having plummeted to a dismal 52 at the conclusion of round six. The 11-round tournament, featuring 169 players besides Lodhi, concludes on February 20.
