KARACHI: Will Danish Kaneria be in the right frame of mind to lead Sindh against Punjab in their Faysal Bank Pentangular Cup final starting today remains to be seen.

The board, despite the controversy, has allowed Kaneria to carry out his duties but the final is devoid of big names courtesy the Bangladesh Premier League. Sindh will be without regular captain Mohammad Sami, Faisal Iqbal, Fawad Alam and Shahzaib Hasan while Punjab will miss captain Shoaib Malik, Ahmed Shahzad and Nasir Jamshed.

Mohammad Ayub Dogar, leading Punjab, remained confident of his backup players delivering in the senior’s absence.

“The absence of Jamshed and Malik is a big loss as both are experienced,” said Dogar. “But I’m sure the replacements will rise to the occasion.”

Punjab go into the final having beaten Sindh by seven wickets in their round match. However, Kaneria is backing his side to give Punjab a fight.

“We lost because of Sami’s absence,” said Kaneria. “But we have players like Sarfraz Ahmed and Saeed Bin Nasir who are capable of anything.”
