According to Balochistan Levies, a group of men armed with sophisticated automatic weapons opened fire on the labourers, who had camped along the under construction road. The assailants also torched the machinery and three company vehicles.
The assailants managed to escape after the incident, while the banned Baloch Liberation Front (BLF) claimed responsibility for the attack.
Talking to reporters from an unspecified location, BLF spokesperson Duda Baloch said that his organisation carried out the deadly attack and warned that they will target companies involved in construction or exploration (oil and gas) projects.
The deceased and injured had been shifted to the district headquarters hospital.
The victims, belonging to Sindh and Waziristan, were identified as Ahmed Khan Bashir s/o Haleem Khan, Shah Amanullah, Zarman Den, Naseeb Khan, Sheikh Salam, Asmatullah, Rafiullah.
Earlier, talking to The Express Tribune, a security official in Turbat confirmed that the incident had taken place, but could not confirm the number of deaths.
“The incident did take place and law enforcment agencies had reached the spot,” he said.
Two killed in Qila Saifullah
Meanwhile, unknown assailants gunned down two people in Ali Khail area of Qila Saifullah.
The deceased were identified as Mohammad Hussain and Shah Wali. The bodies had been shifted to the nearby state-run hospital and handed over to the heirs.
