RAWALPINDI:

A former provincial minister’s servant was arrested and gold ornaments worth Rs75 million were recovered from his possession.

Police sources said Usman Ghani was arrested from Lehtrar Bazaar on Wednesday night as he, along with his mother, was fleeing with a huge quantity of jewellery.

Earlier on Monday, the Shalimar police had registered a case against Ghani on the complaint of Nawabzada Mohsin Ali, former Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa finance minister, who is currently living in Islamabad. He said Ghani had been working at the minister’s house for the past 10 years but he suddenly disappeared on February 5 along with the valuables.

The Shalimar police contacted Kotli Sattian police, who kept a watch on the suspect and nabbed him as he was about to skip town.

The items include diamonds, six precious wrist watches, large gold garlands, gold shirt-buttons, diamond necklaces, earrings, chains, lockets and rings.
