ATTARI: A dedicated gate will soon be opened at the Wagah border to facilitate cross-border trade between India and Pakistan, government officials said on Thursday. The formal announcement is planned on February 13, during the three-day visit of the Indian Commerce and Textiles Minister Anand Sharma to Pakistan. The minister is due for a first of its kind trade show in Lahore, where Indian exporters will display their wares. He will be accompanied by industrialists and representatives from several major Indian corporations. “The primary objective of this show is to create opportunities for expansion of trade, investment and technology transfer,” said a Federation of India Chambers of Commerce and Industry official. Government officials say that the two sides are aiming to double annual trade to $6 billion in the next three years.
