Musharraf expected to return in September

LAHORE: Former president Pervez Musharraf is expected to announce his election manifesto in September on his return to the country.

This was announced by All Pakistan Muslim League Chief Coordinator Chaudhry Shahbaz during a press conference at the Lahore Press Club on Sunday.

He said the former president will face all charges against him, adding that the government is even free to probe Nawab Akbar Bugti's assassination and the Lal Mosque carnage.

Shahbaz also disclosed the merger of the All Pakistan Muslim League and PML-Q in the days ahead.

India will definitely be very happy because what India calls, Kashmir's fate was about to be decided in Musharraf's regime. I know Musharraf was going to surrender demand of Kashmir and would offer some more parts of Pakistan to India. I just wonder how can people just forget the golden era of Pakistan's economy and blame Musharraf for current fiasco. People and media is against the IMF program we are in but they just forget that we got out of IMF program in 2005. All the loans owed to IMF were retired then. HUH !! I pity you all ... all those who are suffering from poverty, inflation lawlessness and corruption. arif jamal | 13 years ago | Reply A brave person speaks with his conscience, well educated, well trained and patriotic but dictator is better than those who are democratically elected in the name of cast creed and hatred and with fake degrees and whose loyalty is always in suspicious as they change their loyalty to see the wind is blowing in what direction. we are waiting for a man who has the ability to bring the Pakistan out of abyss of crisis. one can easily compare the present democratic period with that of era of Musharraf and then decide for better period if he/she is not biased This is the miracle of democracy in Pakistan that a fake degree holder has been re-elected.

Each and every citizen of this country has to realize that it is none other than themselves who needs to ensure that the most capable people are voted-in and then held accountable. It is high time we stop waiting for our "knight in shining armor" to save Pakistan. If Musharraf is willing to come back & face charges and still participate in the elections... let him. We need to vote for whoever is best for our country.

Hamza | 13 years ago | Reply mr. jibran seems to have a real issue with president musharraf. by repeatedly calling him a dictator (what dictator allows free media, open speech, the most vile hate language directed against him for several years) he hopes to lessen the feelings that many pakistanis are now feeling-the musharraf years were MUCH better than what pakistan is facing now. the return to democracy was not really democracy. and pakistanis know this. people like jibran can moan and spread false propaganda and name call. its almost inevitable at this point. pervez musharraf zindabad!

He is the only one left now who could save the country, rejecting him would be one of the biggest mistakes of these times. These corrupt, illiterate politicians and parliamentarians hurried in denouncing benefits country achieved and progress it made under his strong leadership. His professionalism, ruling qualities and abilities saved us in past from the traps laid by international players looking for an opportunity to destabilize the country and equalling it to Afghanistan. Pakistan needs leadership. If he has a vision and concern about Pakistan then he will surely convince a part of gullible population towards his political manifesto. Not only that he got the country embroiled in Afhanistan mess he also concluded the NRO for his personal benefits (which surely the ALMIGHTY ALLAH took away from him)and heaped upon this nation the most corrupt lot of politicians headed by Mr.Zardari. For the advocates of facebook support groups as a measure of Musharraf's popularity, might I add that Facebook groups are not representative of the population of Pakistan, most of which dont even have access to the internet. That section will be the one deciding the vote, not armchair supporters on social networking websites.

He is an individual who did some rights and some wrongs when he had support, which in fact was there because he had power. One doesn't have to be Einstein to guess the correct answer. On the one hand people complain of their prolonged miseries due to the mismanagement and greed of current politicians all over Pakistan, yet they talk about General Musharraf being a dictator. Open your eyes, for people were living in far better conditions then. People should shun parochialism and think positively. Best of luck to President Musharraf.

If the wind will start blowing in favour of General (R) Pervez Musharraf, the politicians will also move along. We need homest, selfless, patriotic and courageous leader, be it Musharaf or anyone else. Enough is enough! We have suffered a lot thanks to the follies of our leaders in the Past. Let the leaders who think of Pakistan first should come forward. We will welcome him in Pakistan. We will be happy if he faces the charges against him and get himself cleared honourably.

mehdi shahi | 13 years ago | Reply Gen pervaiz musharraf has ruled PAKISTAN for 09 years.he never wanted to become president of Pakistan.it was then MR Nawaz sharif who terminated him in air and his aids been able to consolidate his rule.GEN musharraf is not one who came in... power through back door.he very soon joined the political arena. despite he made some unprecedented historical blunders and faced strong opposition in some quarters.Even than by and large musharraf lives in the heart of people.his graph of popularity has gone up with growing unpopularity of PPP. HIs return to Pakistan in SEP as a Leader will yield good results for his party in coming ELECTIONS.

Hassan | 13 years ago | Reply I must say as an overseas Pakistani the general feeling is that while Musharraf was in charge he was considered a strong leader by people in the west and on a couple of visits to Pakistan i noticed a visible difference in the country. I sincerely hope he is given a chance, and not a victim of the usual political mud slinging and slaunder but i get a terrible feeling he won't last. The lal mosque mob / the law making mafia will make life difficult.

Being put in the same situation as he had once put the Sharifs, he is employing the same tactics as employed by the Sharifs. Poor thing. I am sure Musharraf will not come to Pakistan at least during 2010, let alone September. He is a true commando. If he can't conquer, he finds an escape to run away ensuring his own safety.
