The court, which is conducting the trial of seven suspects charged with involvement in the Mumbai attacks, reserved its judgment after hearing arguments from the defence lawyers and the prosecution.
Lakhvi and the other suspects have been booked under the Anti-terrorism Act of the Pakistan Penal Code and a cyber crime law. The trial is taking place at the heavily-guarded Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
The prosecution argued against freeing Lakhvi, seen by investigators as the mastermind of the Mumbai attacks, as there was adequate evidence linking him to the attacks.
In response, defence lawyer Khawaja Sultan said that there was no direct evidence connecting Lakhvi to the attacks. “Lakhvi has never faced such allegations before and has a clean track record,” he said.
Citing reasons why Lakhvi should be freed on bail, Sultan said that the case had been dragging on as in the past year and eight months, only two witnesses had testified.
